Hello everyone, it’s time for a 'color’ splash over at The Play Date Cafe and this time it’s black and white with a splash of red. I have a bit more of a wave than a splash to be honest but it needed to be Rubied!
We got to play with some fun stamps from Tradefish. I got sent a birthday set called ‘Another Year’, and at first was going to go with the lovely cake stamp that was in there but I was lead off creatively in other directions so just went with the flow. I thought the little party hat would look fun in gingham.
I also did something I have only just started doing, wait for it…. I cut a stamp in half! I wanted to split the ‘happy birthday’ sentiment up so that it would fit on my label so I decided to bite the bullet and cut it in half. Oh the stress of it lol. I took a deep breath, cut it and then breathed a sigh of relief that I had cut it in the right place and do you know what, life went on! I can see lots of my stamps being ‘attacked’ now, it really is so fun making your own stamp up.#
Isn’t that cake beautiful?
I decided to try and stamp onto some acetate for the first time. I had bought Staz-On a while back and thought it was about time I used it. As I was trying to clean off my background stamp (and getting nowhere) I remembered I had bought a cleaner for it, it’s hard stuff to get off isn’t it! So many things to remember too, don’t use it on this, reink it with that, wipe off this with this lol. Then because it’s acetate you have to do everything you did on the front on the back as well to cover up what you can see, phew. Anyway, I got there in the end with a finished card and a stamp that I can use again so it was worth the effort after all! The card itself is pretty self explanatory, lots of sticking and die cutting, the little hat was paper pieced twice (once for the inside, once for the outside).
The card was quite hard to photograph due to the shine on the acetate but hopefully you can make it out. It looks a little bit bowed but that was just so that I could show you the pattern created with the Staz-On ink. It is perfectly straight, honest.
My little polka bow was being naughty doing its own thing too!
We have more exciting team news for you… Stacey Rodriguez is going to be joining us! She will officially start on September 15th, we are really looking forward to seeing more of her work.
Pop on over to the main Play Date Cafe blog to see all of the wonderful inspiration there and don’t forget to be eligible for a prize you have to do just the black and white with a splash of red.
