Paper Issues–Learning Curve

Hi there

It's time for a new theme over at Paper Issues.  The theme is ‘Learning Curve’, it's open to interpretation and you can link up an old post, so why not pop by and link something up?

I made this little card for Natasha. I just love learning new things so I enjoyed going to school – happy days!  I think a day that goes by without some kind of learning is a waste of a day!  I’m lucky because my daughter Natasha loves to learn too.

I made this card for her with mixed emotions and if I’m honest I’ve been putting off making it until the very last minute.  Natasha starts senior school in about 9 days and  I feel really sad about it.  Sad yet happy that she’s growing up to be an independent girl, with her own ideas and opinions.  On one hand it’s wonderful, on the other terrifying.  I really feel I’ve made the most of every moment with her, so have no regrets,  I just wish I could hold onto these years for longer.  She is truly a lovely little person to be around, with a wicked sense of humour, a sensible (and pretty!) head on her shoulders and beautiful manners.  Let’s hope she stays that way.

I’ve taken this week off to spend some last minute precious moments with her before she embarks on new adventures at her school.  The thought of being called ‘Mum’ instead of ‘Mummy’ and her not wanting to hold my hand while she’s out in public brings tears to my eyes and a quivering bottom lip, and yes I’m even doing that girly thing of wafting away the tears (not helped by the fact that as I type this there is some melodramatic music playing on ‘The Last Samurai’ film in the background that Ian’s watching!!  Thanks Tom Cruise, you’ve just ruined my mascara lol).

Ian’s just looking at me as if to say, ‘What are you upset about woman’!!!  Fortunately, he was the one that sat next to me at the bottom of our staircase comforting me when she had her first sleepover and for lots of other ‘firsts’ in recent years, so I guess he’s used to me by now and getting prepared for what’s to come.  He reckons he’s taken out shares in Kleenex in preparation!

I used Echo Park papers, PTI It’s Official Stamp set for the ruler, A+ and stars with lots of Lawn Fawn yumminess… Schoolhouse Backdrops, Critters in the Forest, Cozy Christmas, Hats Off to You.  For the sentiment I used the Critters’ set to create the word happy and the word ‘day’ then finished off the sentiment using the letter ‘s’ from the Cozy Christmas set.  I layered the circle with PTI ‘Limitless Layers’ dies and added a couple of paperclips and some twine for interest.  The owl was paper pieced using the same Echo Park papers, with some glossy accents added to the owl’s eyes and I drew in a line to make it look like he’s a bit more studious with his glasses on!

That’s it from me, off to sort out my make up ;o)

Hope you have a great week.  We have bank holiday here tomorrow in England, our last one now until Christmas so we’re going to make the most of the time off together.

Have fun!
