An Apple A Day

Hi there

I just love apples on cards and projects.  I don’t know why but they just conjure up happy homely feelings, so when I got this little Paper Smooches set I just knew I wanted to make a little card for my princess.  She is getting really well at school, too well for my liking actually lol. I do love her to bits!!

So my little card (3 x 3) is for today’s Play Date Cafe challenge, which has the suggested colours of Wine, Smudge, Leather and Parchment.

I chose to use wine and parchment for my main colours and then just accent with the leather and smudge.  I don’t often use wine as a colour, so it made a refreshing change.

What I love about this card is the glossy accents effect on the heart, they are just such a cool product, don’t you think!  I love the high gloss and 3d effect you get with them, I don’t know why I don’t use them more really.  I think my card is pretty self explanatory but I just wanted to point out that I also used crackle on the leaf, if you look closely you may just be able to make it out.

Stamp Attic & Missing Mojo!

Hi there

Firstly I’d like to say thank you to a few people that have featured my cards over the past week or so.  First up is Lawnscaping who featured my ‘Eek’ Halloween card in their Lawnscaping Patrol Prowl, then to Unscripted Sketches who put me in the Top 3 for my ‘Sepia’ card and to CARDS Create: who featured my ‘Fox’ card.

Well it’s good to be back.  I haven’t blogged for a few days, firstly because I just needed a couple of days off, but then when I was ready nothing was coming!  This card was created for The Stamp Attic.

I had lots of ideas but for some reason I just couldn’t pull any of them off over the weekend, my mojo just upped and left and wasn’t coming back.  That was until I decided to go back to my tried and tested motivator of a good old sketch.  Once I saw the sketch I had a card in the making.  Enter the sketch….

I found this over at Card Patterns and instantly there was a small creative spark!! Thank you Card Patterns! Hallelujah!

For full details of how I made the card and a list of supplies please pop on over to The Stamp Attic.

Onto some news (be warned this is a long ps!! …)

I’m sure many of you are aware that Julie Ranae Murray heads up The Play Date Cafe, the colour challenge blog that I design for, but more importantly has become my very good friend over time.  Well she has been having some health issues with her teeth and to cut a long story short lots of designers are joining in a blog hop to get some sponsorship to help with her medical bills which are very costly in the US.  We don’t realise how fortunate we are in the UK sometimes, we feel we have a high price to pay when actually most of our costs for medical care are taken care of.  With this in mind The Sweet Stamp Shop has organised this fantastic blog hop for Julie.

There will be a benefit blog hop called
'Operation Julie's Smile'
that will take place Oct 7-9

There are a variety of
companies and design teams who will be participating in this hop to help raise funds for this benefit.
So far, over $2000 in prizes have been made available
and will be awarded for both participants
and those who donate.
I will be one of the blog hop stops along the way.  To read all about it, in Julie’s words, pop by her blog, Julie’s Open Window, for a visit.

Donations are already being accepted and will all be a part of the prize giveaway.

Julie gives so much of herself in promoting others in the blogging world, and to her friends and family so it would be lovely if we could give something back to her.  Whatever tiny way you can help will be one more step towards Julie getting back her true smile, I really hope you can join in the fun with us all for a very worthwhile cause.

Play Date Cafe & Lawn Fawn

It’s time to celebrate over at The Play Date Cafe!  We’ve run 100 challenges!  Wow, that’s a lot of challenges!  Today we have one of my favourite companies sponsoring us over at The Play Date Cafe …. Lawn Fawn (yay!) and we were really lucky to be able to choose a stamp set.  I chose the alphabet set, ‘quinn’s ABC’s’

I just love the large clear letters, but more importantly the way they are designed makes them so easy to line up.  I don’t know about you but I’ve always found alphabet stamps a great idea in theory but in practice it’s a whole other story!  These have been designed so that as long as you line up the bottom edge of the stamp you will stamp those letters perfectly every time, now that’s SO helpful!

I chose to use this stamp set with one of my recent birthday pressies, ‘Bon Voyage’.  We have some friends that are moving back to Australia and these stamps just seemed to work so well for their card.  I stamped the sentiment onto cryogen cardstock, and Copic coloured it.  I tied around two different colours of twine before attaching it to an orange cardstock panel.  This was then added to the card base with pop dots for dimension.  I then stamped the plane and the clouds, the plane was coloured in with Copics, the clouds I just added a pale blue line around the inside edge before attaching to the card.  I always LOVE playing with Lawn Fawn stamps so I was in my element with this week’s stamps!

We have some really fun and juicy colours for you to play with this week!
