Play Date Cafe 121

Can you believe it’s March already?!  Phew this year is going sooo fast!

Today over at The Play Date Cafe we have some soft colours for you to challenge yourselves with.  I chose to use some elegant and feminine papers.
PDCC 121
Using Basic Grey Curio papers I matted the base of the card and added a die cut border using a Martha Stewart punch. I then die cut a panel in MME Lost & Found lined paper and inked the edges with Ranger Tea Dye ink.

I then die cut a chocolate brown panel using a PTI Mat Stack die and a smaller one in some more BG Curio patterned paper.  The assembled panel was then added to the card base using pop dots for dimension.

I die cut a rosette using the Sizzix Tim Holtz die in a beige cardstock and then inked it up with some more tea dye ink.  I then stamped my butterfly from Hero Arts’ Antique Engravings set in Memento Cocoa ink and coloured it with some pastel colours to complement the papers.  I’m not sure if you can tell from the picture but I added Ranger Crackle accents to the butterfly to give it a cracked appearance, it looks better in real life, honest!!  The rosette and butterfly embellishment were attached directly to the central panel with Glossy Accents for a bit more durability for when it’s posted.  While the Crackle Accents were still wet I lifted the wings a little so that they would have more dimension once dried.

The final step was to print a sentiment on the computer, hand cut it into a banner and then add a couple of butterflies and some tea dye ink to finish.

A little secret.. this card looks like it only took a few minutes.  Honestly.. it took HOURS!!  I had to walk away from it several times before I eventually settled on this design.  Sometimes the best thing really is to just walk away when it’s not happening!!

I do hope you will play along with us this week.  Here’s our inspiration picture

The main Play Date Cafe Blog has full details of the prize up for grabs, plus some beautiful DT samples for you to peruse at your leisure.

Have fun!

  4. Ruby, this is dripping with gorgeousness! Sav's right: those papers are amazing, and the dies and the butterfly all look so well together. And I totally HEAR you on the 'taking hours' thing. I have had that happen many times, even this week. Something that looks so simple took so long in the design process. Well, your outcome is magnificent, my friend!
